Individual Components or Preassembled Panels?

Should you build your own fence with individual fence components, or opt for preassembled panels?

It all depends on your landscape, your skill level and the amount of time you want to spend on the project. Each method has pros and cons.

Individual Fence Components

Building a fence with individual components, or “stick building”, offers you more flexibility and control. This is typically a better method when building a fence on uneven ground, on slopes or around unique outdoor features. Why? Because you can follow the contours of the landscape better with individual components. In addition, you can control the length of your runs as well as how and where the fence will end. This method requires more time, effort and skill on the installer’s end.

Preassembled Panels

Building with preassembled panels, on the other hand, is a more DIY-friendly method. The panels are already built for you. You will still need to set the posts and attach the panels to the posts, but having the panels pre-built saves you time and hassle. This is typically a better method when building a fence on level ground with no obstructions. The downside? Preassembled panels have very little give. If your ground is uneven or slightly sloped, you will notice more gaps at the bottom of the fence.
